Halloween Party At Zouk

without comments

It amazed me how people took interest in how they dress down to the very minute details. At Zouk yesterday, dressing was brought to a whole new level. There was a queue for those who dressed up well in a Halloween theme and they were good! Wow! Its also amazing what people would do for a free entry.

Phuture, that was where my click remained for the whole night. The place was packed like the atoms in a solid. Vibrating in its own place. Some fast, some slow. It was so packed that moving to one place to another is like squeezing your finger through a very tight punani. Aha.. for those who don’t know what punani is. Its better that you don’t.

I encountered a few guys who tried the make a connection thing with a girl. Some were successful, some were just lame. There was this guy in particular who was simply put an idiotic freak. He was an indian who looked pretty much like Russel Peter’s bottom and with him was a chinese ‘gay’ who looked like well.. gay. He was trying so hard to be cool. You noe, something like a cannot make it 50cents who moved like William Hung. Yes. I was pretty amused but at the same time disgusted at him. He was trying to pick up two girls who were minding their own business. And he was really creepy while at it. In the end my clique became bouncers. Aha.. coz the girls ended up dancing in the middle of our circle. The guy apologised to ME! ahahha! He thought the girls were mine. OK……. Weirdo!

So well, quite an exciting experience.

Making The First Move

without comments

Approaching a Design Brief is like approaching a random girl at a bar. For those who are experienced at this, nothing could be easier. Well, but for those who aren’t, nothing could be worst! Some would feel so nervous and awkward that they would just fall flat on their faces not knowing what to do and some would get the chick’s number.

Well, I’m sure a lot of guys would die to know the secret of doing this.
How do you get a random girl’s number?
How do you attack a design brief confidently?

Its simple really. Its in everyone of us. Its just that when we are faced with the task, we tend to get all nervous and forget the basics. Well, so wad are the basics? What is the thing that makes you a girl’s man, a good designer.

It may vary in context from point to point. It may even vary in execution.
But the constant value of it all is Connection.

Sounds like something you already know right? Wrong! 90% of humans would just know it but can’t do it. Its like talk the talk but you can’t walk the walk. Its a matter of putting your head into the task and get that connection going.

Alrite, lets do a case study.

Case Study 1

You see a girl at Ben&Jerrys that you like. She’s just standing there serving icecream but every scoop that she takes makes you melt. You want her number to get to know her better but you just don’t know how to talk to her.

Keyword: Connection

Think. What is she wearing? What colour is her t-shirt? Is she wearing a cap? Does she have long hair? Is she wearing glasses? Does she speak with an accent? Does she talk more to her female colleagues to her male? Does she seem shy? Does she smile a lot? Does she make eye contact?

It varies from case to case but always observe your surrounding. Its all abt the context of connection. So through all these observation, its time to make ur analysis and choose ur strongest connection. Sometimes its best to always have a namecard with you. That would make you look more professional. So aha.. if you haven’t got one, maybe its high time you did.

If you got that connection point right, everything else will just fall into place. Its the same with design briefs. You get the concept right, everything else will follow suite.

Good luck there buddy.

LADIDA 6

with 2 comments

Alot of my friends have been asking me, what does LADIDA 6 mean?

Well, so here’s the answer.

LADIDA 6 is a journey
It is an inspiration
A vision
A team that I am finding

The name LADIDA is inspired by the song Ladeda performed by one of my favourite local indie band Allura

The number 6 is an inspiration of a team i want to form.

1 Photographer
1 Motion Artist
1 Digital Artist
1 Stylist
1 Make Up Artist
1 Video Artist

So yes now you know.

Boobies!

with 4 comments

There was this case on the papers some time back about a man who groped a lady’s boobies. Apparently the court ruled that the boobs are not private parts and thus the case is not a major offence. The lady without a doubt wasn’t happy about it as the man got off with a fine.

But this made me rethink of what is minor and major in our society. If groping boobies isn’t something serious anymore, what is?

Take this picture for instance. Have u seen a man running topless in a marathon? Yes? Well, why isn’t he arrested for outrage of modesty? He’s topless. So what if he’s running, does it mean if he’s running everyone’s eyes are closed? So if a man walks down orchard road topless, you’d arrest him? Well now, Singapore law is really very weird to me. Oh wait, no, not just the law, the people too.

Maybe thats why the arts scene cannot grow here. This small little ‘Pulau’ is infested with narrow minded common minds so much so that they reject anything and everything that feels different. Trend followers not trend setters.

Namecard

without comments

I looked down one day from the 3rd level of cineleisure and i saw something. A new inspiration for my namecard design. I’ve been thinking so hard for an interesting yet simple design but all efforts has gone to bust. Thus when i got this idea, i quickly got it jotted down on whatever paper i had (which at that time was ironically someone’s namecard in my wallet).

Yeah, i don’t think you can understand this sketch but aha, its for my reference. I’ll post the final product up once its ready.

Art vs Common Minds

without comments

The difference between Art and a common mind encompasses everything from the most minute detail to the very essence of the human heart.

A common mind cannot comprehend the nature of art
It is cruel, unjust, condescending, closed and cold

Art is to feel
Art is to change
Art is to create

A true maestro can turn any defect into an effect
He is selfless and just
He serves no one but everyone

Art vs common minds
